To support faculty members of the Business School in overcoming disciplinary research boundaries, engaging with international academic frontiers, and generating more innovative scholarly outcomes, the Teacher Development Center hosted an Interdisciplinary Frontier Lecture on December 3 in Room 501 of the Comprehensive Building at Fucheng Road Campus. The event featured Professor Gong Shiyang, Jingshi Distinguished Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Beijing Normal University, as the keynote speaker. Associate Dean Qiu Yong attended the lecture. Also present were Associate Professor Chen Libin, Deputy Director of the Department of Organizational Management and Program Director of Marketing, along with young faculty members Hong Ying, Qian Si, Ma Ke, and Fan Jias, as well as numerous master’s and doctoral students who actively participated in the academic discussion. The lecture was chaired by Associate Professor Zhang Xiaoyan, Deputy Director of the Teacher Development Center.
Professor Gong Shiyang holds a Ph.D. in Management from Tsinghua University and served as a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has led four research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and received the NSFC Excellent Young Scientist Fund (Class B), a prestigious grant supporting outstanding early-career researchers. His research focuses on the intersection of marketing and emerging technologies, with specific interests in genetic influences, social networks, and digital content. His scholarly work has been published in top-tier academic journals, including Management Science, Journal of Marketing Research, Psychological Science, Acta Psychologica Sinica, and Nankai Management Review, among others.
During the interactive session, faculty members and students participated in an in-depth academic discussion on a range of topics, including the practical implications and policy relevance of the research, the concept of genetic endowment, the conceptual origins of interdisciplinary research at the intersection of genetics and management, the integration of genetics with leadership and leadership traits, methodological approaches, emerging research themes in live streaming, and the application of causal inference methods in organizational behavior.
The successful organization of this Interdisciplinary Frontier Lecture has established a high-quality platform enabling faculty and students of the Business School to engage directly with international academic frontiers and foster cross-disciplinary intellectual exchange. Professor Gong Shiyang delivered a presentation that combined scholarly innovation with methodological rigor, while exemplifying a transformative research paradigm—transcending traditional disciplinary boundaries and integrating diverse methodologies to address complex research challenges. His insights opened new avenues for research exploration, significantly inspiring participants’ enthusiasm and motivation to pursue interdisciplinary inquiry. This event represents a key initiative by the Business School Teacher Development Center to advance faculty development and cultivate academic innovation. Moreover, it lays a solid foundation for the School’s future endeavors in interdisciplinary research, alignment with global academic trends, and enhancement of scientific creativity. It will continue to drive the advancement of research in key domains such as marketing and organizational management toward greater depth and broader interdisciplinary integration.
